Individual psychotherapy focus on you and your goals. Dr. Stevie pushes you beyond your comfort zone to face the underlying stuff that keeps holding you back
Dr. Stevie uses Emotionally Focused Therapy techniques for couples counseling to build closeness with your partner. Each partner learns to share desires AND listen to the partner's desires. Together the couple creates safety and closeness.
Many times, after we make our initial psychotherapy or couples counseling appointment, we feel great!
We have a plan in place, we know hope is on the way!
This alone can start the healing process.
I send electronic paperwork for you to complete before the first session. This introduces you to the practice and its policies, lets me know some basic information, and informs you of your rights as a client.
It is absolutely normal for people to get a little nervous waiting to be called inside (most offices have some sort of waiting area) the office for their first appointment. I mean, you are about to sit down with a total stranger and talk about FEELINGS! AHHHH! Often this is a person’s first time in treatment. So, nerves are expected.
I greet my new clients and offer water or coffee, show them where the bathroom key is, then bring them into the office. Clients can sit anywhere there is a comfortable seat, though most choose the sofa. Then we begin! The first session assesses what is going on in your world. I want to get to know you, and the best way to do that is for you to talk. I’ll offer prompts, such as “what brings you in?” or “So you shared with me…tell me more about that” to get you started. The goal is to get a good foundation of your current circumstances, a history leading to your experiences, and your goals for counseling.
We will schedule a follow-up appointment, usually one week after the initial. This time gives you opportunity to process some of the things we talked about, and security that we will meet again. After sessions, it is common to feel:
After the first couple of sessions, we’ll hit our stride. We’ve built a connection, set a direction, and are ready to make real changes. But change isn’t easy—it comes with highs and lows. Some days, you'll feel unstoppable, and others, you might want to hide under the covers. That’s normal.
Growth is uncomfortable, but that’s where the magic happens. The more you share, the more we learn and grow together. My job is to keep you motivated and accountable, like a personal trainer for your mind. I’ll push you out of your comfort zone, offer guidance, and give feedback. But just like in the gym, the results come from the effort you put in. The more you challenge yourself, the better the outcome. Show up, do the work, and let’s make it happen!
Because therapy is medically necessary and requires a mental health diagnosis, it is covered by many insurance plans. Dr. Stevie is credentialled through Optum Health and Alma. To see if you are covered, check below or reach out to us directly.
Therapy is for those who are looking to dig deep into mental health, often involving a diagnosis (yep, that’s where insurance comes in). It’s in-depth, sometimes tough, and focused on finding and healing the deeper stuff—like past traumas, often from childhood. I use methods like EMDR and CBT to help you get to the root of things, and yes, this can take time, dedication, and an intense relationship. Therapy isn’t about quick fixes; it’s about long-term change and healing, which means we’ll be doing some hard work together.
On the flip side, advising is more about action. It’s goal-specific, problem-solving, and focused on helping you get things done. No diagnosis, no insurance, and no deep-dive into childhood. Coaching is for when you need guidance, structure, and a push to meet your goals. It’s typically not weekly—unless that’s what works for you—and it’s designed to help you solve a specific issue or reach a particular milestone.
Absolutely. Sometimes during coaching, something deeper might come up—maybe an old trauma or a mental health concern. When that happens, we can switch gears and dig into it with therapy. And when you’re ready to move forward again, we can switch back to coaching. It’s all about what works for you in the moment.
